Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement Events

The Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement hosts the following events each semester.

Community Partners Service-Learning Recruitment Fair

During this event we provide the opportunity for UIndy students to network with representatives of numerous organizations with which they may be able to complete their service-learning project.

Community Campus Forum

At this forum students, faculty, and staff meet and network with residents and organization leaders from the southeast community. Time is provided for networking opportunities as well as a short program on service initiatives in the area.

UIndy Service-Learning Expo and Celebration

This expo provides the opportunity for UIndy students to showcase their service work in the community and to celebrate how UIndy students are changing lives through servce. A guest lecturer focusing on UIndy's engagement in the community is also featured as this event

CSLCE Recognitions

The CSLCE presents awards for outstanding service-learning and outstanding volunteerism to both undergraduate and graduate students. An award for outstanding community partner also is presented annually.

UIndy Faculty:

We are pleased to announce that after much response for you, the Center for Service-Learning & Community Engagement in collaboration with Indiana Campus Compact (ICC) has finalized the series of Professional Development Service-Learning workshops for UIndy Faculty throughout the 2016-17 Academic Year. The topics were selected by UIndy Faculty through a recent survey and we plan to kick off this series of Workshops on the 1st Wednesday in October (10-5) from 11:30-1pm, location TBA. UIndy faculty can choose to participate in a series of workshops and work with faculty mentors to learn more about service-learning and community engagement best practices. This will be a Service-Learning Certificate program and is designed to strengthen the development and implementation of service-learning projects across UIndy. UIndy faculty who attend the following four workshops will receive the “UIndy Standards of Service-Learning Best Practices” Level 1 certificate. Workshop themes for this certificate level are:

  • 1. Developing & Implementing a Service-Learning Experience
  • 2. Service-Learning & Critical Reflection
  • 3. Developing reciprocal partnerships through Service-Learning
  • 4. Developing & Assessing Student Service-Learning outcomes

UIndy Faculty who attend all workshops will receive the “UIndy Service-Learning Faculty Scholar” Level 2 certificate. Additional workshop themes are:

  • 5. Engaged Scholarship in Service-Learning
  • 6. Risk Management & Student Accountability in Service-Learning
  • 7. Service-Learning through an Interdisciplinary Lensi
  • 8. Service –Learning & Social Justice

Workshops will mostly be hosted on the 1st Wednesday of each month (with a few exceptions) starting in October from 11:30-1pm (location TBA) with light lunch provided. We do understand that due to classes or unforeseen circumstances faculty may need to miss a workshop. Indiana Campus Compact offers sessions that could substitute for one workshop missed. The ICC events that could be used as a substitute for one of the sessions could be: NOTE: only able to substitute for 2 workshops; 1 within the Standards certificate requirements and 1 within the Scholars certificate requirements

  • 5. Phase 2: Best Practices in Measuring Students’ Civic Learning and Development – Friday, February 3, 2017, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm – Indianapolis, IN – Additional Fee

  • 6. Phase 3: How to Generate Direct or Indirect Artifacts of Students’ Civic Learning or Development – Friday, April 7, 2017, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm – Indianapolis, IN – Additional Fee
